Broadly speaking, street crime refers to criminal activities that occur in public places, as defined in the field of sociology.
The London Metropolitan Police Force provides the following definition of street crime: it includes acts such as robbery, commonly known as “mugging,” and thefts where property is snatched from victims in the street without assault.
Street crime is caused by a combination of individual and external factors. Personal negative emotions, such as fear and mistrust, along with external elements like poverty and lack of societal support, are the most common contributors.
